What is a Florida apostille for Nepal?

An apostille is a certificate issued by the Florida Department of State that authenticates the origin of a public document for international use. When you need a Florida document — such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, diploma, or power of attorney — to be recognized by authorities in Nepal, that document typically requires an apostille.

The apostille does not verify that the contents of your document are true. It confirms that the signature, seal, or stamp on the document belongs to a legitimate Florida official — whether that is a vital records officer, a county clerk, or a Florida notary public. This authentication allows officials in Nepal to trust that the document is genuine.

Nepal is NOT a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. This is critical information that many people miss. If you obtain a Florida apostille for use in Nepal, the receiving office will almost certainly reject it. Documents destined for Nepal typically require the longer embassy/consulate legalization process, not an apostille.

Who stamps Florida documents for use in Nepal?

Only the Florida Department of State (DOS) in Tallahassee can apostille Florida documents. This is the sole competent authority for Florida-issued and Florida-notarized documents.

The embassy or consulate of Nepal does NOT apostille Florida documents. The Nepal consulate in Miami, Houston, or elsewhere handles services related to Nepal-issued documents and visas — they do not authenticate Florida papers.

No Florida county clerk can add an apostille. The clerk can certify court documents, but the apostille itself comes only from Tallahassee. No Florida notary can add an apostille. The notary creates notarized documents, but the apostille authenticating that notary's signature comes from the state.

**Rush filing:** We take the document to the state the next business day after we receive it. The state typically returns rush courier drops same-day or next-day.

**Shipping to us from Florida:** Most major Florida cities are overnight FedEx to Tallahassee. Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville are all overnight. Smaller towns and the Keys may be two days.
